Snowmaker Operating Weather Conditions

Writer: admin Time:2026-06-16 15:14:43 Browse:0℃

Snow machines cannot operate under all weather conditions, as their effective performance relies on a set of strict environmental requirements.

First, the ambient temperature should be kept below 0°C. More importantly, the wet-bulb temperature is the decisive factor for successful snowmaking. When the wet-bulb temperature drops to -9.4°C or lower, the unit can produce large volumes of high-quality dry snow.

Second, the relative air humidity needs to stay at an optimal level, ideally around 60%. Excessively high humidity prevents water droplets from freezing properly, resulting in wet, slushy snow and potential nozzle clogging.

In addition, wind direction and wind speed are critical. The machine must operate downwind to avoid ice and snow backflow that would block the nozzles. A wind speed of 5 m/s or below is recommended for startup.

Lastly, although not an atmospheric condition, water temperature also plays a vital role. For optimal ice crystal formation, the water used for snowmaking should be cooler than 5°C, with the ideal range between 0°C and 4°C.
